Keith StrachanKeith Strachan: Director

Keith has worked extensively in theatre and television as director, musical director, arranger and composer.

His theatre credits, as director, include Elvis the Musical, Only The Lonely (The Roy Orbison Story), Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens, Four Steps to Heaven (West End and National Tour), Rock & Roll Heaven, The Blues Brothers Meet The Soul Sisters, Thank You For The Music, Dancing In The Streets, The Sound of Fury, A Christmas Carol (National Tour), No Trams to Lime Street (Liverpool Playhouse), The Signalman, The Lodger, The Pit and the Pendulum and Harry’s Web (Windsor Theatre Royal), Appointment With Death, Fiddlers Three, The Rats, The Wasp’s Nest (Palace Theatre, Westcliff) and The Lady Or The Tiger (The Orange Tree Theatre).

His work as musical director and arranger in the West End includes Let The Good Stones Roll, Grease, Good Rockin’ Tonite, In The Midnight Hour, Ferry Cross The Mersey and All You Need Is Love.

In 1980 Keith formed the singing group Wall Street Crash and was their artistic and musical director through three Royal Command Performances and extensive live and television work at home and abroad. He left the group in 1984 to further his career in theatre and television but they continue to work, mainly in Europe.

In the late eighties Keith worked in television, as a musical director and arranger on shows such as Live From Her Majesty’s, New Faces, Spitting Image and the Morecambe and Wise Show. He continues to work in television but principally as a composer. His credits include Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Winning Lines, Johnny and Denise - Passport To Paradise, How Do They Do That, The People Versus, The Detectives, Talking Telephone Numbers, The Hypnotic World Of Paul Mckenna and Aunties Bloomers.

Keith was the composer of the Christmas musical The Little Match Girl based on Hans Christian Anderson’s short story which, since written in 1975, has enjoyed many productions most recently in 2004 at the Reykjavik Opera House. The Little Match Girl was also filmed for television in 1986 starring Twiggy and Roger Daltrey and was nominated for an international Emmy Award. The musical includes the song Mistletoe And Wine which later became Cliff Richard’s Christmas number one. Sales of the record exceeded one million, and Keith received the Ivor Novello award for the best selling ‘A’ side of 1988.

He also devised the John Lennon musical Imagine with Ian Kellgren in 1992 and he co-wrote the musical As Large As Life (aka Baby Love) with Richard Harris in 1993.

His most recent work, as composer, in theatre is the new musical Time’s Up written in collaboration with playwright Ray Cooney and lyricist Mary Stewart-David which was work-shopped in January 2005 at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

Recently Carole was choreographer for the Who’s“Tommy”,  Director for “Twelfth Night” in Edinburgh  and Lead Artistic Director for P and O Cruises. She has just directed and staged “Beauty and the Beast” in Dublin – her 4th Christmas production in a row at the Gaiety.

Having been involved with “Dancing in the Streets” from the first concept show with Edwin Starr, Carole is more than happy to be part of the several tours and three West End Theatres so far!.

Sean CavanaghSean Cavanagh
Set Designer

Sean is an Artistic Associate and Director of the York based Riding Lights Theatre Company and a founding Director of the UK Design Group Theatreset Ltd. He was Head of Design for the prestigious Plymouth Theatre Royal for four years following the theatre’s opening.

Productions designed include Pickwick for the Hungarian National Theatre in Budapest and Toby Robertson’s acclaimed revival (for the first time in 400 years) of Shakespeare’s Edward III, seen at the Cambridge and Taormina Festivals. Premiers include Christopher Neame’s adaptation of Graham Greene’s Monsignor Quixote, Robin Hawdon’s adaptation of The Old Devils by Kingsley Amis, Jeremy Brook’s translations of Ibsen’s Enemy of the People and Chekov’s The Cherry Orchard, and Paul Burbridge’s stage adaptation of Three Men in a Boat for Riding Lights. Touring productions include M. Butterfly, Outside Edge, the musical The Sound of Fury, Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the Riding Lights production of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale.  Other projects include the design of Riding Lights new home, The Friargate Theatre, the opening productions of The Alchemist and Dick Turpin, a major community project – the Chester Cycle of Mystery Plays, and David Oyelowo’s new production of The White Devil at the Pavilion Theatre Brighton.  Multimedia events have included The Rock in San Francisco and Rock Me Amadeus in Vienna, and the World Premiere in Singapore of Judah Ben Hur – The Musical.  His most recent work includes the national tour of Murray Watts acclaimed new play African Snow for Riding Lights, commemorating the bicentennial of the abolition of the Trade in Slaves, Sweet Soul Music for Flying Music and Who do you say I am?  for the BBC.

Ben graduated from Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in 2001. Since then he has worked as a Lighting Designer and Production Electrician in both the UK and Internationally.

Recent theatre designs include The Who's Tommy (UK Tour), Dancing in the Streets (UK Tour), A Christmas Carol (UK Tour), Errol Brown (UK Tour), Boogie Nights (UK & World Tour), Luv Esther (UK Tour), Times Up Workshop Production (Shaftesbury Theatre), The Best Of Cuba Spectacular (Casino Figueira, Portugal), Snow White (Newcastle Theatre Royal), Cinderella (Bristol Hippodrome), Dick Whittington (Manchester Opera House)

Ben works within the Events Team at PRG Europe with a varied portfolio including the Launch of the BP Pipeline in Baku, Azerbaijan and later in the year in Tiblisi, Georgia and Ceyham, Turkey. Other projects have included Richard & Judy's Book Awards, Laureus Sports Awards - Portugal, X-Factor, Boogie Nights 2, Rod Stewart at the Royal Albert Hall, The Brits Are Coming and The Zee TV Bollywood Awards. Additionally he has designed, the London Film Premieres of Bridget Jones 2 and Alexander, the Exterior and Reception lighting for the 2005 Brit Awards and an architectural installation at the prestigious Coutts Bank.

Tony Priestley
Costume Designer

Following the recent ‘Dancing in the Streets’ tour, Tony went on to a National Tour of Michael Frayns ‘Clouds’ staring Tara Fitzgerald (Brassed Off) and Lloyd Owen (Monarch of the Glen).

Following this he designed the new ‘Captain Hook’ costume for Russ Abbot in ‘Peter Pan’.

Tony has recently once again been on the road this time with a new adaptation of the Bram Stoker novel ‘ Dracula’, starring Christopher Cazanove as Van Helsing.

Once ‘Dancing in the Streets’ has settled in to London’s West End, Tony will be getting ‘Seven Dwarfs’ ready for the panto season – Tony’s favourite time of the year!

In the past, Tony has designed costumes for the following entertainers; Cannon and Ball, Frank Bruno, Britt Ekland, Robin Cousins, Brian Conley, Joe Pasquale, Lesley Joseph, Paul Nicholas, Gary Willmott, Leslie Grantham to name but a few.

Tony’s previous theatrical productions include the following shows ‘Buddy’, ‘Forbidden Planet’, and ‘Jolson’. ‘Fifteen Streets with Sean Bean’, ‘Puppetry of the Penis’ and ‘Annie’ and ‘Lily Savage and Marti Webb’.

Film credits include ‘Tarzan Greystoke’ with Christopher Lambert and ‘Far and Away’ starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

Tony is currently bopping away backstage to all the great Motown hits!!!
